How long does a typical psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT) session last at the Kitchener Waterloo location?

A typical psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy session at our Kitchener Waterloo location lasts approximately 2.5 hours, including therapeutic preparation, the experiential component, and integration support.

Psychedelic-assisted therapy may not be suitable for individuals with:

  • An allergy to ketamine

  • Pregnancy

  • A personal history of schizophrenia or psychosis

  • Uncontrolled hypertension

  • A severe recent head injury

Eligibility is always determined through a medical consultation.

In Canada, ketamine is currently the only psychedelic substance that can be prescribed for therapeutic use. Other substances, such as MDMA and psilocybin, which we receive many inquiries about, are not approved for use outside of specific circumstances. Field Trip Health does not provide MDMA or psilocybin-assisted therapy.

While the medication administration and medical components are not covered by public plans, many clients are able to use their psychotherapy or nursing benefits toward part of their overall costs. Coverage varies by insurer and plan, and our team can help you understand your options.

At our Kitchener Waterloo location, low dose psychedelics are administered mainly by intramuscular injection, however can be offered intranasally or sublingually, depending on your treatment plan. Your nurse practitioner will discuss the most appropriate method for you during your consultation.
