Frequently asked questions.
How does at-home psychedelic therapy work in Newmarket?
A trained nurse visits your home for each dosing session with the required equipment. Your therapist joins virtually to support preparation, your experience, and integration.
Are there any conditions that would make me ineligible for psychedelic therapy?
Psychedelic-assisted therapy may not be suitable for individuals with:
- An allergy to ketamine
- Pregnancy
- A personal history of schizophrenia or psychosis
- Uncontrolled hypertension
- A severe recent head injury
Eligibility is always determined through a medical consultation.
Which psychedelic substances are legally available for therapeutic use in Canada?
In Canada, ketamine is currently the only psychedelic substance that can be prescribed for therapeutic use. Other substances, such as MDMA and psilocybin, which we receive many inquiries about, are not approved for use outside of specific circumstances. Field Trip Health does not provide MDMA or psilocybin-assisted therapy.
What conditions do people explore this for?
At-home psychedelic-assisted therapy may be considered within a broader mental-health care plan for individuals living with challenges such as:
Major depressive disorder
Generalized or social anxiety

OCD
Chronic pain
Eating-related concerns
Substance-use patterns or addictive behaviours
It is generally explored when conventional treatments—such as medications or psychotherapy—have not provided sufficient relief.

Is this treatment covered by insurance, and do you offer manageable monthly payment options?
While the medication administration and medical components are not covered by public plans, many clients are able to use their psychotherapy or nursing benefits toward part of their overall costs. Coverage varies by insurer and plan, and our team can help you understand your options.
Flexible third-party financing is also available through approved lenders.
Why do some people use terms like “ketamine therapy” or "ketamine-assisted therapy"?
Some people may be familiar with the term “ketamine therapy,” or “ketamine-assisted therapy” which are often used in media to describe approaches that involve ketamine in supervised medical settings.
At Field Trip Health, we use the terminology “psychedelic therapy” or “psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy (PAP/PAT)” to remain aligned with regulatory expectations and to accurately reflect our structured, psychotherapy-based model of care. This information is provided for educational purposes only.
How quickly will I feel better?
Experiences vary. Some individuals report noticing changes early in the process, while for others the experience unfolds more gradually. Your care team will check in with you throughout the program to understand how you’re feeling and to adjust your support as needed.
