What Is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)?
Support your therapeutic process.
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) takes a holistic approach by combining the effects of ketamine with structured psychotherapy. This approach considers symptoms, thought patterns, life experiences, coping skills, and underlying emotional factors in a coordinated therapeutic setting.
Emerging research suggests that combining ketamine with psychotherapy may be associated with more sustained therapeutic effects for some individuals living with depression.¹
Some people find that a short, structured course of KAP can help them engage more deeply in therapy and explore emotional material in ways that may otherwise take longer in traditional talk therapy. The reflective nature of KAP may support emotional insight, personal growth, and overall well-being, though responses vary.
How KAP works.
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a structured therapeutic process that uses low-dose ketamine alongside psychotherapy. Unlike certain medications that are designed to manage symptoms on an ongoing basis, KAP aims to create conditions that may help people explore underlying patterns or experiences in a supportive environment.
Ketamine can temporarily shift perception and internal focus, allowing some individuals to revisit memories, emotions, or personal themes from a different vantage point. When paired with psychotherapy, this process may support deeper understanding, emotional processing, or perspective-shifting for some people.
Who is KAP for?
KAP may be considered for adults living with depression, anxiety, PTSD, or other mental-health challenges when conventional treatments have not provided enough relief. Suitability is always determined through a clinical assessment.
Depression
Research suggests that ketamine can influence neural pathways related to mood and cognition. When combined with psychotherapy, some individuals report shifts in entrenched thought patterns.
Anxiety
KAP offers a different therapeutic experience from conventional anti-anxiety medications. Some individuals find that the combination of ketamine and psychotherapy helps them explore underlying contributors to anxiety in new ways.
PTSD
For some people, KAP may help them revisit and process traumatic experiences with greater emotional safety and support, though individual responses vary.
